Cameron Montgomery ran for two scores and Greg Meinzer tossed a pair of TDs as No. 9 state-ranked The Woodlands defeated rival Conroe for the eighth straight time 33-7 on Friday night at Buddy Moorhead Memorial Stadium.

The Highlanders would score on the game's second play when Montgomery flew up the middle and raced 58 yards to paydirt. TWHS upped its advantage to 17-0 after one period, getting a 36-yard TD pass from Meinzer to Kyle Drabek and a 33-yard Jacob Gibbons field goal.

Down 24-0 at the half, Conroe battled The Woodlands to almost a stalemate in the second half, with the Highlanders outscoring the Tigers 9-7.

The Tigers scored last, when backup QB Kendall Hineman led the squad on a 37-yard, 4-play drive that included passes to Raymond Santillan and Brandon Haynes. Quintobian then found the end zone with 1:09 left to avert the shutout.

The Highlander defense was solid throughout, the A.J. Montalvo, Wayne Hrozek, Brooks Dorsett, Craig Hendrix (blocked field goal), Preston Benditz, Jon Merrick, Nick Reinsvold and Hunter Smith amongst the players trapping the Tigers for losses or short gains.

For the Tiger defense, Matt Davis was a standout, along with Michael Levi and Nate Posey.

Montgomery ran for a game-high 126 yards, while Conroe's Mo McArthur had a solid second half with five hard-driving carries for 53 yards.
